Privacy policy

MJDesigns is a web design and digital marketing business run by Michael in Centurion, Gauteng. In this policy, “we” and “us” mean MJDesigns. Michael is the Information Officer responsible for your personal information and can be reached at michael@mjdesigns.co.za or 068 782 7410.

• Information you send us: your name, business name, phone number, email address and anything you write when you contact us by WhatsApp, email or phone.
• Project information: content, logos, photos, login details and other material you give us to build or manage your website, ads or social media.
• Website usage: pages visited, device and browser type, approximate location and how you arrived, collected by Google Analytics through cookies.
• Server logs: your IP address and the pages requested, kept by our hosting provider for security.

The “Let’s build something” form on our home page does not send or store anything on our server. It writes a message in your browser and opens WhatsApp. Nothing is sent until you press send in WhatsApp yourself.

The ChatGPT Ads assessment form on our ChatGPT Ads page works differently. When you submit it, the details you enter (your name, business name, email address, and if you choose to give them, your WhatsApp number, website, industry, main goal, budget range and message) are emailed to MJDesigns so we can reply and prepare your assessment. They are not saved in a database on this website, not shared or sold, and not used for marketing. To limit spam, our server keeps a scrambled (hashed) version of your IP address and the time of your submission for about an hour.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not send marketing messages unless you have asked for them. You can opt out at any time.

We only share personal information where it is needed to do the work or run the business:

• Google (Analytics, Search Console, Business Profile)
• Meta (WhatsApp, and Facebook and Instagram if we run ads or social media for you)
• Our hosting and domain providers
• Payment providers such as PayFast, when a project includes online payments
• Authorities, where the law requires it

Some of these providers store information outside South Africa. We use well-known providers who protect personal information to a standard similar to POPIA.

This website uses Google Analytics cookies to count visits and see which pages are useful. They do not tell us who you are. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, and the site will still work.

We keep enquiry messages for as long as needed to respond and follow up, and project and invoicing records for as long as the law requires (usually five years for tax records). Login details for client systems are removed when we no longer manage that system.

We use strong passwords, two-step verification where available, secure (https) connections and reputable hosting. No system is completely secure, and if a breach affects your information we will tell you and the Information Regulator as POPIA requires.

Under POPIA you can ask us to tell you what personal information we hold about you, correct or delete it, or stop using it for a particular purpose. Contact us at michael@mjdesigns.co.za. If you are unhappy with how we handled your request, you can complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa at inforegulator.org.za.

We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top shows when it last changed.
